LASIK Xtra

What Is LASIK Xtra?

Performed in conjunction with LASIK, LASIK Xtra is a cornea strengthening procedure that enhances the corneal biomechanical integrity.

Why is There A Need for LASIK Xtra?

During a LASIK surgery, an excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea to correct for refractive errors. As a result, one’s cornea becomes thinner after LASIK.Ā For those with sufficient corneal thickness, this is not a problem. However, for this reason, people with thin corneas may not be ideal candidates for LASIK.Ā By adding LASIk Xtra to the treatment procedure,Ā people with corneas that were previously classified as ā€˜too thin’ may be able to undergo LASIK.

The LASIK Xtra Treatment Process

LASIK XtraĀ is performed together with LASIK. It takes around 3 minutes.

  1. Riboflavin is instilled into the cornea
  2. The riboflavin-infused cornea is infused with UV-A light
  3. Under the light, corneal cross-linking occurs, strengthening the cornea
